Course Summary
Ready to leave the classroom and get stuck into something more hands on and practical? Brickwork could be for you! You will be working in the Brick Workshop at our Nuns Corner Campus learning how to mix mortar and build different types of structures.
With the UK’s growing demand for new housing and skilled tradespeople, bricklayers are more in demand than ever – both locally and across the country.
Course Details
This qualification is aimed at learners who wish to learn, develop, and practice the skills required for employment and/or career progression in Bricklaying.
The course delivers the following in both a Theory & Practical setting. Interpreting working drawings to set out masonry structures, producing thin joint masonry and masonry cladding, building solid walling, isolated and attached piers and construct cavity walling forming masonry structures.You will study Health and Safety during your course and a full range of practical and theory elements

Entry requirements
3 GCSEs at grade 3 or above, preferably including either English or Maths

After completing this course, you’ll be ready to take your next step into the construction industry with confidence. Many of our students go on to:
Bricklaying apprenticeships: Join local employers or national construction firms to continue leaning on the job while earning a wage.
Full-time employment: Start working as bricklayer, labourer or general site operative on residential, commercial or industrial projects.
Higher level courses: If you gain the right qualification you can progress onto the University Centre Grimsby’s HNC Construction Management for England – Construction Design & Build Technician (HTQ), HNC Construction Management for England – Construction Site Supervisor (HTQ) or HNC Civil Engineering.
Self-employment: Use your skills to work independently as a tradesperson, taking on private jobs or subcontracting for larger companies.
