Course Summary

This course is a strong choice for you if you have an interest in Producing Media and/or thoughts of following a Higher Education course, apprentice or work placement in Media / Film / Communications / Journalism or Cultural Studies. The Extended Certificate in Creative Digital Media Production is an exciting and practical course which offers a number of transferable skills in preparation for employment or further educational study in areas such as; Television and Film, Radio, Sound Recording, Print-Based Media, Interactive Media and Games Development.

You can progress straight into employment in the creative industries including moving image and print media. This course provides you with the strongest opportunity for employment, it provides skills that can be transferable in both traditional film production and animated media projects. Many of our students progress on to study animation or practical based courses at degree level.

Course Details

Throughout this course, you will develop an understanding of the media industry through analysing media representations and pitching and producing media projects. Across the 2 years of study you will study 4 units including:

MEDIA REPRESENTATIONS:

2 hour, onscreen exam that will allow students to analyse and deconstruct media representations from TV and moving image productions via technical elements such as cinematography, editing, mise-en-scene and sound.

PRE-PRODUCTION PORTFOLIO:

Coursework based assignment. You will carry out different assignment briefs in a work related scenario gaining knowledge and understanding of what is needed before a sound recording production begins. This will include areas such as: health and safety preparation, script writing, voice casting, conducting meetings, organising sound files and documentation.

MEDIA SKILLS RESPONDING TO A COMMISSION:

Task set and marked by exam board. You will understand how to respond to a commission brief. You will learn about clients needs and how to carry out requirements of working through pitches, proposals and treatment documents, all of which are accepted industry methods for communicating initial ideas. The brief is released two weeks before a supervised assessment in order to carry out research activities into the subject. The supervised assessment period will be a maximum of six hours.

UNIT 11: RADIO PRODUCTION – FICTION:

Learners will explore the codes and conventions of fictional radio programmes, developing skills in devising radio drama for a choice of genres and audiences. Student will record sounds, source sounds, record their written scrips and edit together using a layering editing process.
