Geography is taught by Mr Robinson.

What Entry Requirements Do I Need?

The minimum requirement is a 5 GSCE’s at Grade 5 including Geography, Maths and English. If you have not studied Geography at GCSE it may be possible to take this option, applications will be dealt with on an individual basis.

Assessment Overview

Component 1: Physical

Section A: Water and carbon cycles

Section B: either Hot desert systems and landscapes or Coastal systems and landscapes or Glacial systems and landscapes

Section C: either Hazards or Ecosystems under stress

Written exam: 2 hours 30 minutes

40% of total A Level

Section A: answer all questions (36 marks)

Section B: answer either question 2 or question 3 or question 4 (36 marks)

Section C: answer either question 5 or question 6 (48 marks)

Question types: short answer, levels of response and extended prose

Component 2: Human

Section A: Global systems and global governance

Section B: Changing places

Section C: either Contemporary urban environments or Population and the environment or Resource security

Written exam: 2 hours 30 minutes

40% of total A Level

Section A: answer all questions (36 marks)

Section B: answer all questions (36 marks)

Section C: answer either question 3 or question 4 or question 5 (48 marks)

Question types: short answer, levels of response, extended prose.

Component 3: Geography fieldwork investigation

Students complete an individual investigation which must include data collected in the field. The individual investigation must be based on a question or issue defined and developed by the student relating to any part of the specification content

What Kind of Person Studies This Course?

Anybody with an interest in the world around us! In Geography we will study both the Human and Physical world developing an understanding of how our lives are influenced by natural systems and how our actions can have long lasting effects on these systems. We also study the best ways in which to manage these issues sustainably in the future. You would enjoy this course if you enjoyed GSCE Geography and want to go deeper into the subject. The subject supports a range of other A Levels due to the wide range of skills that you will develop.

Where Will an A Level in Geography Lead Me?

Studying Geography is not only about the content that you will cover but also the skills which you will develop throughout your studies. These analytical, problem solving skills make Geography graduates some of the most employable giving a wide range of options when considering future careers.
