Across the 2 years of study you will study 4 units and produce a horror podcast alongside a pre-production portfolio the skills gained will allow you to be ready for progression in to the industry.
Unit 1 Year 1: Media representations (Mandatory Unit):
This unit allows students to analyse and deconstruct media representations from TV, film, music video, games, print image products such as advertising and magazines. Technical elements such as cinematography, editing, mise-en-scene and sound are explored in the first year of study. A 2 hour onscreen examination is required for this unit. A range of 2,4 10 and one 20 mark response will be written in the timed window.
Unit 4 Year 1&2: Pre-production portfolio:
This is a coursework based unit that builds up knowledge and communication skills. Students will carry out different assignment briefs in work-related scenarios gaining knowledge and understanding of what is needed before a sound recording production begins. This will include areas such as: health and safety preparation, script writing, voice casting, conducting meetings, organising sound files and documentation. All the pre production work will be in preparation for a ‘Hull Horror Haunts’ podcast production.
Unit 11 Year 1&2: Radio Production – Fiction:
Learners will explore the codes and conventions of fictional radio programmes, developing skills in devising radio drama. Students will record foley sounds, source sounds, record their written scrips and edit together using a layering editing process to create a ‘Hull Horror Haunts podcast’. Students will have access to recording equipment in and out of college to make a successful production.
Unit 8 Year 2: Media skills responding to a commission (Mandatory Unit):
The final unit is a task set and marked by the exam board. Students will understand how to respond to a commission brief to mimic a real life working scenario.
